Union Avenue Kroger - Building The Community
Union Avenue Kroger continues to develop, bringing vision to fruition.
The opportunity to receive 100% funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provided the City of Germantown the opportunity to pursue the first phase of reconstruction of Farmington Boulevard from Allenby Road to Wolf River Boulevard. With an extensive background in roadway projects, Pickering was selected to provide survey, roadway design, construction engineering and inspection of this $1.9 million dollar project. Timing, however, would be critical as the project had to be ready to bid very quickly or the City would lose the funding. That meant Pickering had only four months to complete a fairly complex design. Accommodating a considerable amount of utilities and identifying a durable and cost effective paving method were among the challenges.
Phase I of the project was successfully completed in November 2010, and Phase II of the project from Allenby Road to Germantown Road was completed in 2012. In addition to replacing pavement, damaged sidewalks, curb and gutter, and ADA ramps, the design for Phase II included modification of three signals from span wire to decorative mast arm.
