Riviana’s 426,000-square-foot facility, the largest rice processing plant in North America, consolidated its Memphis and Houston operations into a single facility that includes a 190,000-square-foot warehouse; a 120,000 square feet for regular rice packaging; 78,000 square feet for rice processing; plus storage, office, and ancillary areas.

Given the multiple functions of the facility - receiving of grain, storage of grain, processing for multiple product lines, packaging, high bay storage and shipping by truck and rail - numerous design challenges had to be addressed and resolved to meet the demanding schedule.

Site layout was a challenge as well.  Phasing around an existing rail line was required, but the construction of a new rail spur defined the site.  The location of the new spur dictated the location and elevation of the proposed plant and the civil design evolved from it.
